STEM graduate turned City lawyer Emma Sturt will be speaking at 'How to get into law as a career changer' at the University of Law London Moorgate on the evening of Tuesday 21 May 2019.

Sturt studied engineering, and then spent six years working as civil engineer, before studying the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Legal Practice Course (LPC) and joining Mayer Brown as a trainee. She is now an associate in the firm's London banking & finance team.

We have ten places for STEM Future Lawyers members to hear Sturt speak at the event. Apply to attend below.

Also speaking will be: Peter Barker, a trainee solicitor at Irwin Mitchell; James Stuart, a trainee solicitor at Shearman & Sterling; and Jack Harris, a barrister from 2 Temple Gardens. Each has come to the law after working in another sector.

They will be joined by John Watkins, ULaw’s director of employability, who has a raft of experience advising career changers. The session will be chaired by a Legal Cheek journalist.

The quartet will answer audience questions in a Question Time-style panel discussion running from 6pm to 7:15pm. They will also share the secrets to their own success, while advising attendees on how they can best position themselves to obtain training contracts. They will look, too, to the future and give their views on what changes we can expect in the legal market.

Afterwards there will be an opportunity to chat informally with the speakers over drinks and nibbles.

Apply to attend. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel.
