We have ten (free) places available for STEM Future Lawyers members at ‘Commercial Awareness Question Time: Inside the acquisition of Visa Europe – with Macfarlanes’ on Wednesday 21 June.
The aim of the event is to give students an insight into the frontline of corporate M&A – and help them boost their commercial awareness ahead of Macafarlanes’ training contract application deadline in July.
The session – run by Legal Cheek – will focus on one of the largest M&A deals of 2016, Visa Inc’s $18.375bn acquisition of Visa Europe, on which Macfarlanes acted alongside leading US law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
On the panel will be three of the firm’s lawyers of varying levels of seniority who worked on the deal: Nicholas Barclay, the partner who co-led the transaction, mid-level associate solicitor Alice Fuller and newly qualified solicitor Alex Evans (read Alex's article about the deal).
The audience of students will have the opportunity to ask the panel questions about the deal; the scale and complexity of which, as well as the multi-jurisdictional nature, required the Macfarlanes team to use the highest level of strategic thinking and innovative legal advice to overcome a host of challenges.
The panel discussion will run from 6-7pm, after which there will be networking and drinks with the speakers, the firm’s trainees and its graduate recruitment team, until 8.30pm.
Apply to attend below. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel. The CVs of those offered places will be shared with Macfarlanes’ graduate recruitment team.
